You have heard of it but you are still unsure whether it is the right supplement for you? Let’s look at citrulline malate together!
Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid whose main biological function is participating in the urea cycle, where it helps the body to get rid of ammonia - a by-product of nitrogen metabolism - while producing another important amino acid responsible for nitric oxide (NO) production - arginine.
One of the most significant benefits and properties of L-citrulline is its unique ability to expand blood vessels and improve blood flow. This characteristic might be super important for many athletes who are devoted to aerobic or strength workouts, because increased blood flow improves supply of oxygen and nutrients into the working muscles and supports better peformance and faster regeneration.
The decomposition of amino acids in our body naturally causes production of ammonia as a by-product. But since the ammonia is toxic, the body turns ammonia in livers into urea that flows through blood and is filtered by kidneys through urine. L-citrulline plays a key role in multiple functions of the circulatory system and is the most important mediator in the urea cycle. Citrulline coworks with arginine and ornithine on ammonia recycling and on effective production of NO.
It is suitable to mention that already using pure L-citrulline (as opposed to supplementing pure L-arginine) is not a wrong choice to support NO production.
L-arginine is the precursor of NO, nevertheless based on the most recent knowledge its supplementation is not as far as effective as supplementation of citrulline, because its absorption in the intestines is limited and higher dosage will probably also cause gastrointestinal problems.
If you are after maximum citrulline utilization, current studies say that citrulline malate - a compound of L-citrulline bound to malic acid (malate) - seems to be the best option that is unique for its high biological availability.
Citrulline malate might help to delay exhaustion, decrease muscle pain, and support production of growth hormone, immunity, and anaerobic and aerobic endurance. However, it is of high importance to time the dosage well.
The dose of citrulline malate may, as other substances, depend on various factors like individual resistance, body weight, and workout intensity. Anyway, general recommended dosage of citrulline malate is between 6 to 8 grams per dose.
To enjoy full benefits of citrulline, it must be used already one hour before the beginning of your workout.
This means that you will likely need to use the full active dose of citrulline malate approximately half an hours before you usually take the pre-workout dose.
To enjoy long-lasting benefits of higher NO concentration in the blood, it might be convenient to use citrulline malate more than once a day and spread the dosage into two or three equal doses during the day. You can try our Citrulline Malate bez příchuti or s příchutí pomeranč & mango.
